Hastelloy B2

Hastelloy B2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to corrosion and good flexibility. It is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking and pitting in many reducing media. Its composition includes approximately 65% nickel, 22% molybdenum, 14-17% chromium, 3-4% tungsten, 1.15%-1.45 manganese, 0.50%-0.80 iron, as well as minor amounts of copper cobalt and carbon for alloying purposes and silicon for oxidation control purposes. It offers superior thermal stability compared to other alloys due to its high concentration of Molybdenum content, which ranges from about 2%.

Hastelloy B2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy of chromium that offers superior corrosion and oxidation resistance. Common applications include the construction of valves, pumps, and tanks in chemical processing plants due to their ability to resist corrosion in oxidizing and reducing environments. It also has good formability, weldability, machinability, and high strength at temperatures up to 1200°F (649°C). Additionally, it exhibits excellent stress-corrosion cracking resistance in chloride-containing environments. From heat exchangers for nuclear power plants to jet engines and turbine blades in aircraft--Hastelloy B2 is an ideal choice due to its thermodynamic stability.
