Stainless Steel 409

Stainless Steel 409 is a ferritic stainless steel containing 11.5 - 18% chromium, 0.5-1.0% nickel, and some titanium and aluminium for stabilization. It has relatively low corrosion resistance compared to other stainless steels but good mechanical properties such as high strength in low temperatures and good formability. It is typically found in automotive exhaust systems due to its excellent heat resistance properties at temperatures up to 1200°F (649°C).

Stainless steel 409 is ideal for many industrial and automotive applications due to its resistance to corrosion, high-temperature oxidation, and stress-corrosion cracking. It offers better weldability, formability, and mechanical properties than other alloy grades. This alloy can be used in exhaust systems and structural components such as frames, engine brackets, transmission housing covers, etc. Additionally, it can be used in the kitchenware industry for sinks and dishwasher doors because of its shiny aesthetics and durability.
