Stainless Steel 904L

Stainless Steel 904L is a low carbon, high alloy austenitic stainless steel which contains copper and other alloying elements. It has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in chloride solutions and sulfuric acid environments. The chemical composition of this steel includes iron ( Fe) along with nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr) , molybdenum(Mo), manganese (Mn), silicon(Si), and copper(Cu). It also contains traces of nitrogen(N). Adding molybdenum provides superior resistance to localized attack by chlorides and increases overall resistivity for general corrosion.

Stainless Steel 904L is an austenitic stainless steel designed for various severe corrosion environments. It offers good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing media, excellent resistance to inorganic acid attack, stress-corrosion cracking, and high tensile strength. The properties of 904L make it suitable for use in applications such as chemical processing equipment, industrial machinery parts, fasteners, heat exchangers, offshore oil production platforms and petrochemical refinery systems.
