Tool and Die Steel Bars

Tool steel bars refers to a wide range of carbon steels and alloy steels, which are especially suitable for making into tools. Their suitability comes from their unique toughness, abrasion resistance, ability to hold a cutting edge, and/or deformation resistance at elevated temperatures (red-hardness). In general tool, steel is used in a heat-treated state.

With a carbon content between 0.7 percent and 1.5 percent, tool steels are manufactured to generate the right quality under carefully controlled conditions. The manganese content is always kept low in order to reduce the risk of cracking during water quenching. For adequate performance, proper heat treatment of these steels is necessary, and there are several suppliers that provide tooling blanks intended for oil quenching.

The A2 tool steel bar, D2 tool steel bar, DC-53 tool steel bar, H13, M2, M4, O1, O6, S5, S7, Viscount 44 and W1 tool steel bar are common grades of Tool Steel Bars.
