Alloy steel Gr.B16 Stud bolts meet ASTM A193 standards that are manufactured using stainless steel. These are used in pressure vessels, flanges, fittings and valves in high pressure and high temperature service. They are also used in special purpose applications. Stud bolts are categorized in several grades that are grade B4, 5, and 6 7, 8 and so on. Every grade has different purpose. The selection of the stud bolts as per the grades depends upon various factors such as service conditions, design, temperature characteristics and mechanical properties.
The alloy steel Gr.B16 stud bolts is chromium molybdenum vanadium steel that is heat treated to be used in high temperature and high pressure service conditions. These characteristics are obtained due to the material used in its manufacturing. The alloy steel of grade B16 is hardened by process of tempering and oil quenching. This process is done when the alloy reaches the room temperature. Thus they are used widely in high strength applications in industries due to its hardness and machinability. More commonly they are used in power generation turbines. Alloy steel Gr. B16 stud bolts and grade B7 has similar strength requirements thus they can be also used.
