It comprises 93.4% aluminium, 4.5% copper, 0.7% magnesium and 1.6% silicon, all bonded in the alloy to give it a higher tensile strength than other aluminium alloys – up to 38 ksi (262 MPa). Its high strength and light weight make it ideal for aerospace applications and numerous industrial uses, including transportation components like frames for ships, cars and bicycles; structures such as window frames or furniture frames; and architectural components such as doors or beams for buildings.
