Copper Nickel 90/10 Forged Fittings

Copper Nickel 90/10 Forged Fittings

Copper Nickel 90-10 is a wrought alloy composed of 90% copper and 10% nickel. The alloy was invented to create an economical material that can handle high temperatures and resist corrosion. It is also known as Copper Nickel Alloy C70600 or UNS C7060X/C74030.

The most common mechanical properties of 90-10 Copper Nickel forged fittings are tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, hardness, and reduction in area. Tensile Strength for this alloy ranges from 30 ksi (207 MPa) minimum up to 85 ksi (586 MPa) ultimate with yield strengths between 15 ksi minimum – 68 ksi max (103 – 462 MPa). These values depend on the temper level used during the forging process. By reducing the thickness of the fitting walls, higher values can be obtained, but at the same time, it affects its elasticity and increases its brittleness due to cold working effects caused by forming.

Elongations range from 40% min to 18% max depending on wall thickness, while hardness typically varies between BHN 70 -120 depending on the temperature used during manufacturing. Reduction in Area percentages ranges from 25-50%. Both elongation numbers and percentage reductions in the area will vary based on how hard or soft a material is when supplied by suppliers, so those must usually be tested before being purchased for use during fabrication processes.

These alloys contain other elements such as iron, manganese & silicon, which will affect their mechanical properties significantly when present above certain levels; therefore, users must know what the actual chemical composition of any given material is before using them without testing first, then choosing good grades with optimal properties suited best for their intended application purposes!

Copper nickel 90/10 forged fittings have a variety of uses in piping. These fittings boast high strength, corrosion resistance and good thermal conductivity, making them ideal for installations dealing with seawater or steam. In addition to their durability, copper nickel 90/10 forged fittings can be welded easily, adding versatility across numerous industries. Copper Nickel 90/10 is specifically known for its enhanced resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and chloride-induced pitting, making it the fitting of choice for various applications, including marine and shipping operations. The advantages offered by copper nickel 90/10 forged fittings are essential to many pipelines. Due to this, they are commonly used in shipbuilding and offshore drilling projects where maximum protection against corrosion is a must.
