The electrode exhibits austenitic characteristics. The alloy is designed for welding wrought and cast alloys which are resistant to heat. The wire requires heat treatment for hardening. The Incoloy 800 electrode has an excellent creep and stress cracking corrosion resistance. The alloy is not prone to loss of strength even when exposed to high temperatures. The series has good weldability because of aluminum presence in the electrode. The alloy is used in welding similar grades of steel. The material can withstand oxidizing environments such as nitric and sulfuric acid. The filler metal is also moderately resistant to sodium salts and other molten salt-bearing environments.
Properties of Incoloy 800 electrodes
Mechanical- The alloy has a tensile strength of 500Mpa while the yield strength is 210MPa. The elongation capacity of the metal is around 35% in 50mm.
Chemical- The elements found in Incoloy 800 electrodes are carbon, chromium, manganese, silicon, nickel, copper, sulfur, aluminum, iron, and titanium. Aluminum increases the weldability of the alloy while titanium stabilizes the steel.
