Nimonic Bars

Nimonic bars are Nickel Chromium based alloys, which are used in applications with high temperature and stress. Originally designed for the aerospace and power generation sectors, Nimonic bars are designed to retain their strength, oxidation resistance and stability at temperatures over 1000°C (1832°F). These alloys may also contain other elements like aluminium, titanium and cobalt, enhancing their mechanical characteristics and thermal fatigue resistance. Nimonic bars are used extensively in turbine blades, exhaust valves and other high temperature applications where long term performance is a must.

Advantages of Nimonic Bars

These flexible Nimonic Bars offer numerous benefits for various industrial applications.

  •  Long Service Life: The high-temperature strength coupled with the ability to resist oxidation and fatigue gives the Nimonic bars a long service life, thus cutting maintenance and time.
  •  Enhanced Component Performance: Employment of Nimonic bars in high temperature operations results in enhanced performance and productivity, especially in turbine engines and other power producing systems.
  •  Cost-Effectiveness in Demanding Applications: While it is true that Nimonic bars may cost more than conventional bars initially, it is important to note that they are more durable, require less maintenance and are more reliable in the long run.
  • Safety and Reliability: In aerospace and power generation industries where safety is of high importance, Nimonic bars offer reliable performance that will not lead to disastrous failure.
  •  Versatility in Alloying Options: One advantage of using nimonic bars is that the composition can be altered to suit the specific application requirements, thus making them more versatile.
  •  Resistance to Degradation: Nimonic bars do not corrode or oxidise; therefore, the components remain in good condition in the most severe conditions.
  •  Support for Advanced Engineering: The special characteristics of Nimonic bars are conducive to enhanced engineering applications, and thus, new and improved systems can be created in aerospace and power generation.
  •  Minimal Distortion Under Load: Nimonic bars have a high creep resistance, thus preventing distortion of components and systems under long-term load.

Nimonic Bars offer several advantages that make them suitable for industrial and commercial applications.

Common Applications of Nimonic Bars

Due to its excellent features, Nimonic Bars are preferred for various industrial applications. Some of the main applications include.

  • Aerospace Industry: Nimonic bars are used in turbine engines, jet engines and other high temperature applications due to their strength and high temperature oxidation resistance.
  •  Power Generation: Due to high temperature strength and high thermal fatigue resistance, it is used in gas turbines and steam turbines.
  •  Marine Engineering: Applied in marine gas turbines and other high stress components used in marine environment where they are subjected to various harsh conditions.
  •  Chemical Processing: Applied in parts that are exposed to corrosive environment such as reaction vessels and processing equipment.
  •  Automotive Industry: Nimonic bars are used in car parts that are exposed to high temperatures and pressure such as exhaust systems and turbo chargers.
  •  Oil & Gas Industry: Applied in the drilling equipment and other equipment that is utilized under high temperature and high pressure.
  •  Industrial Heat Treatment: Applied in furnace parts and other apparatus that is employed in high temperature processes.
  •  Nuclear Industry: Nimonic bars are used in the reactor parts and other structures where high temperature and the impact of radiation is anticipated.
