Stainless Steel 316L Fasteners

Stainless Steel 316L Fasteners

Stainless Steel 316L fasteners are hardware parts such as bolts, nuts, screws, washers, and studs (both threaded and unthreaded) manufactured from 316L grade stainless steel. The "L" stands for low carbon, which means the carbon content is kept below 0.03%. This reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during welding, which makes these fasteners a better fit for high-temperature or welded assemblies compared to standard 316.

The grade contains molybdenum (2–3%), which gives it notably better resistance to chlorides and other corrosive media. It also contains nickel and chromium.

316L fasteners handle corrosive environments well, they maintain their integrity in high-temperature conditions, and hold up in marine or saline environments where other grades would start to fail. They are used in chemical processing, marine engineering, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, food processing, and construction.

Stainless Steel 316L Fasteners Price

Pricing for SS 316L fasteners depends on the type, size, and quantity ordered.

  • Small fasteners (M6–M12): ₹80–₹250 per kg
  • Medium fasteners (M16–M24): ₹200–₹450 per kg
  • Large or custom fasteners (M30 and above): ₹400–₹800+ per kg

These prices are only a guide. Final price depends on current raw material costs and order size.

SS 316L fasteners cost ₹150–₹600 per kg for standard items. Special fasteners (high‑strength, non‑standard sizes, or special finishes) cost more.

  • Nickel and molybdenum prices, since both are main alloying elements in 316L.
  • Order quantity: larger orders usually attract better rates
  • Manufacturing process: cold-forged vs machined fasteners differ in cost
  • Finish type: plain, passivated, or electropolished
  • Certification requirements (PED, NACE, etc.) add to the cost
  • Current freight and import duties if sourced internationally

How To Choose The Right Stainless Steel 316L Fasteners Supplier?

Follow the steps below to choose the right Stainless Steel 316L Fasteners Supplier.

Selecting The Right Supplier

Start with whether the supplier keeps SS 316L in stock or sources it on demand. A stocking supplier can fulfil orders faster and usually has better quality consistency since they deal with fewer batches. Ask for a sample if you are ordering a new grade or size. Check if they can supply the full size range you need, since some suppliers only keep common sizes in stock.

Technical Considerations

Confirm the material standard before you order. SS 316L fasteners should meet ASTM A193 (for bolts and studs), ASTM A194 (for nuts), or the relevant DIN/ISO standard for your use. If the fasteners are going into a pressure system, ask for material test certificates (MTCs) with actual heat numbers. Check the thread form too, as metric and imperial threads are not interchangeable.

Evaluating Supplier Credibility

Look for suppliers with ISO 9001 certification at a minimum. If you are in oil and gas or pharma, PED-compliant or NACE MR0175-compliant supply may be required. Ask how long they have been supplying 316L specifically, not just stainless in general. Check if they can provide third-party inspection reports or arrange TPI on request.

Procurement Strategy

If you buy these fasteners often, make a long‑term rate deal with a trusted supplier instead of buying on the spot. Spot buying SS 316L is riskier because nickel prices change a lot. It’s usually better to buy all your fasteners (bolts, nuts, washers) from one supplier. This makes paperwork and material traceability easier, especially when your customer needs traceability records.

Stainless Steel 316L Fasteners FAQ's

Prices are usually ₹150–₹600 per kg for standard sizes. The final price depends on the fastener type, size, order quantity, and certifications. Contact your supplier for a current quote.

SS 316L fasteners are provided to standards including ASTM A193 / A194, ASTM F593 / F594, DIN 933 / 934 / 931, ISO 4014 / 4032, and BS specifications. For piping applications, they are referenced against ASME B16.5 and B18 series standards.

Standard sizes range from M3 to M100 in metric and 3/16" to 4" in imperial. Lengths are usually 10mm to 300mm, with longer and custom lengths also available from most suppliers. Stud bolts for flanges are available as per ASME/ANSI flange dimensions.

SS 316L fasteners are bolts, nuts, screws, studs, and washers made from Grade 316L stainless steel. The grade has chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, and has a low carbon content (max 0.03%), which makes it suitable for welded assemblies and aggressive environments where standard 316 may underperform.

The main 316L fasteners have common bolts and screws, such as hex bolts, stud bolts, socket head cap screws, machine screws, anchor bolts, and carriage bolts. You can also get matching nuts (hex, flange, coupling, and lock nuts) and washers (flat, spring, and lock washers). Special fasteners like eye bolts, U-bolts, and T-bolts are also available in 316L.

The pressure rating varies with the fastener size, rating class, and the flange or fitting it is used with. For ASME Class 150 flanges, 316L stud bolts are rated to handle pressures up to approximately 20 bar at ambient temperatures. For Class 300 and 600 flanges, ratings go higher. Always refer to the relevant ASME B16.5 pressure-temperature rating table for the exact figure applicable to your application.
