The ferralium has higher strength than most stainless steel and corrosion resistant alloys. Super Duplex Stainless Steel Ferralium 255 Stud Bolts are made of 25% chromium with additions of copper alongside other various metals in different compositions. This composition offers outstanding corrosion resistance in various mediums including sulphuric, phosphoric and nitric acid.
The unique feature of this material is that it has a pitting resistance equivalent (PREN) of greater than 40, which indicates its outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. These stud bolts have lower sulphur content that minimises pitting corrosion and at the same time the copper content has a self healing effect at sites of corrosion.
With its critical pitting temperature exceeding 50C, it is found to be used in seawater and other various chloride containing environments due to its good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. It is used in oil and gas industry pumps, wellhead and various subsea equipments. It is popular in grain and vegetable processing plants, sugarcane centrifuges. It also found to connect pulp and paper digester blow valves, feed valves, heater tubes and bleaching components.
