Stainless Steel 17-4 PH Sheet is a precipitation-hardened, martensitic stainless steel with corrosion resistance and excellent mechanical properties. It contains around 15% chromium, 3% nickel, 4.5-5.5 cent copper and 0.1-0.3 cent niobium for improved hardenability, forming characteristics and weldability compared to other stainless steels in its group. Machining of this type of steel requires good tooling and lubrication to prevent galling or seizing due to its relatively high hardness (HRB 55). It is also highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking at 359 MPa minimum yield strength level with excellent toughness throughout the entirety of the range from -103°C up to 315°C operating temperature range, thereby making it ideal for a variety of uses across industries, including aerospace engineering & defence contracting applications as well as medical device manufacturing among others.
Stainless Steel 17-4 PH Sheet is highly versatile and corrosion-resistant. It offers excellent strength and hardness in heat-treated conditions, with good flexibility and toughness in both base metals and welds. It has great formability with superior fatigue properties, making it ideal for use in aircraft components, chemical processing equipment, medical applications, food processing machinery, bushings and pump components. It is also non-magnetic with excellent cryogenic toughness, which makes this type of steel perfect for pressure vessels requiring low magnetic permeability.
